  • Nigeria: China to Invest N146 Billion in Nigeria's Power Sector : China is to invest N146.466 billion ($927 million) in Nigeria's power sector, in a move designed to boost the nation's power situation. China will through its Export-Import Bank provide 75 per cent of required funds to build a 700 mega watt hydro power station on the Northern Zungeru River, while Nigeria will provide the remaining 25 per cent of the fund, put at N48.88 billion ($309 million)
  • Turkish firm to invest $150m in industrial park : A Turkish firm, Zeberced Limited has said it had completed all preliminary work for the construction of $150million industrial park in Abuja. The flag off of the park, which is expected to occupy 250 hectare of land at Idu Industrial park, one of the suburbs of the Federal Capital Territory, is slated for February 2013.
  • MTN to invest $1.3bn in network upgrade by 2013 : MTN Nigeria has said that it would invest $1.3 billion in infrastructure upgrade and expansion by 2013. The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, Mr. Brett Goschen, while speaking at the commissioning of MTN Y’ello City at Victoria Island Lagos yesterday, said that the firm is making this additional investment so as to increase capacity on its network.
  • Nigeria: FG, Chinese Firms Sign N162 Billion Zungeru Dam Contract : The federal government yesterday signed a N162 billion contract with two Chinese firms, Sino Hydro Corporation and China National Electric Engineering Corporation (CNEEC) for the construction of the Zungeru Hydro Electric dam in Niger State, in a fresh move to complete the project which was initiated as far back as 1982 when its feasibility studies were initially conducted.

  • Fed Govt begins implementation of housing for teachers : The Federal Government has begun the full implementation of the Housing for All Teachers Scheme (HATS), with a view to ensuring that teachers have access to affordable shelter. Minister of State for Education Mr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, who spoke in Abuja yesterday when he received the report of the Ministerial Committee on HATS, noted that President Goodluck Jonathan was committed to the welfare of teachers.
  • NAMA installs N280m solar power system at six airports : Air safety received boost at the weekend as the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) completed the first phase of the installation of N280 million solar powered facilities at six major airports to check incessant power failures on its navigational aids (NAVAIDS).

  • Students make car to reduce accidents : Imagine you are seated in a car operating itself in a traffic jam with such other features as being able to sense all objects aound it. It cannot hit the car in front, behind or on the sides. This is the kind of comfort anyone would dream of, especially in Uganda, where road accidents are frequent.

  • Abe gives free Jamb forms to 378 students in Rivers : In continuation of his education support initiative, Senator Magnus Abe, representing Rivers South-East in the National Assembly, has commenced the procurement of the 2012/2013 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, forms for indigent students in the district.
  • Nigeria: UK's Dfid Donates N3bn Drugs to Kano Hospitals : The United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID/PATHS 2) has assisted 347 hospitals in Kano with drugs worth £13m (about N3 billion) from 2007 to 2012, apart from the training and re-training of health workers across the state.
  • Group to create 5,000 jobs for Northern graduates : The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) is set to create about 5,000 jobs in the sector for the unemployed graduates in the north, its founder Dr Boniface Aniebonam, has said in Lagos.
