  • Nigeria: 80,000 Pupils Jostle for Prizes in Indomie Art Contest : An estimated 80,000 children drawn from over 1,000 schools across the country are expected to jostle for prizes including N1.5 million worth of scholarships and more fabulous prizes as the first stage of the second season of the Indomie Inter-school Art Competition commenced during the week.
  • FG Begins Training Of 150,000 Teachers : To enhance the quality of teaching across the country, the federal government has committed resources to train 150,000 teachers in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
  • FG spends N480m on family planning : The federal government spent over $3 million for the purchase of family planning commodities in 2011. Festus Odimegwu, the Chairman, National Population Commission (NPC), revealed this in Yola on Monday at a news conference in commemoration of the 2012 World Population Day.
  • VON Automobiles plans big for Sub-Sahara Africa : The management of VON Automobiles Limited has said it would make Nigeria a hub of automobile production in sub-Saharan Africa, as it announces fresh initiative to launch Phase II of the resuscitated vehicle assembly plant by December 2012.
  • ForgetMeNot Africa launches mobile job app : In a bid to help reduce the escalating rate of unemployment among the youth on the continent, ForgetMeNot Africa has launched Job Xpress, a new internet free SMS-based job application app, that enables partnered mobile networks' subscribers to send CVs and job applications attached to mobile emails from any mobile phone, regardless of the model or make of the handset.
  • Nigeria: FG to Employ 1,000 Unity Schools Teachers : More than 1,000 teachers employed by Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of Unity Colleges would have their appointments regularized soon by the Federal Government, Minister of State for Education Barrister Nyesom Wike said yesterday.
  • Nigeria: Talent Centre Introduces Digital Learning for Pupils : In an attempt to improve quality of teaching and learning and also grant access to international best practice, Talent Centre, has concluded plans to introduce digital learning for primary and secondary school pupils.
  • FG grants scholarship to maths competition winners : Federal Government has granted scholarships to winners of the Cowbell National Secondary School Mathematics Competition, who emerged last week.

  • Globacom Rolls Out 110 000 Free Police Telephone Lines : Nigerian telecommunication provider Globacom has installed 110 000 toll-free lines within the country’s police force, which will help officers to combat crime and stay in contact with their families. 
  • SON creates help desk at Computer Village : As part of its effort to save members of the public from the incessant loss of hard earned resources through the purchase of sub-standard products, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) at the weekend, created a market help desk at the popular computer village, Ikeja.
  • NDIC donates N20m clinic to Ramat Poly : Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has donated a clinic built at the cost of N20 million to the Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri. Engineer Dr. Baba Gana Umar, who is the Rector of the polytechnic, said this at the commissioning of the edifice.
  • Indigenous firm plans to build offshore boats : According to Akiogun, “At the moment, no company in Nigeria is building this, now we have made a move by bringing them on our own. The users will gain more confidence in our operations…………..
  • Travel agency pioneering agric tours : Olufunke Taiwo, chief executive, Hadur Travels and Tours, said, “Adding a feather to our cap after our success story at the last Israel Agrictech exhibition in May, this year, and due to demands from some of our customers to visit farm sites in Africa, we found out from our research that close by in Port Novo, Benin Republic, we have a role model of a big agric farm from which our clients can learn a lot.”…………….
