  • European firm invests $125m in Nigeria’s IHS : A European investments firm, Wendell, has made its first direct investment in Africa with the acquisition of $125 million worth of stakes (25 per cent equity) in Nigeria telecoms infrastructure provider, IHS Holdings Limited (IHS).
  • Dana Air signs $1m contract with Canadian firm : Dana Airlines Limited has announced the signing of a five-year contract with FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd. for its flagship automated information reporting system (AFIRS) 228, at an estimated 1M USD.
  • MAN, Chinese investors partner to develop SMEs : The Manufactures Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun State chapter, is collaborating with Wenzhou, a group of investors from China, in a bid to promote and develop the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Nigeria.
  • ‘Isreali contractors sold Nigeria $240m non-functional drones’ : Nigerian defence and security equipment contractor, Alh. Rabiu Hassan, yesterday, alleged that some Israeli security contractors (names withheld) were fleecing the nation of huge sums of money in hard currencies by supplying either non-functional equipments or collecting mobilisation fees without making supplies.

  • Borno to construct 2,500 houses : Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State says 2,500 housing units will be constructed in Maiduguri to provide accommodation for people in the state capital.
  • US firm to build oil refinery in Kogi : Kogi State government is to partner a US-based company, Global Investment Project, towards the establishment of oil refinery and revitalization of the state’s moribund mass transit company.

Opportunities for Nigerian/African

  • Oando awards scholarships to 225, launches foundation : As part of its  vision to transform lives of Nigerian students through education, Oando Foundation has awarded scholarships to 225 less-privileged children nationwide, Ms. Tokunboh Durosaro, Director, Oando Foundation has said.
  • C-River empowers 6,000 poor households : About 6,000 poor households in Cross River State have been empowered by the state government under a social security safety net called Conditional Cash Transfer, CCT, otherwise known as Project Comfort.
  • At last, communities get potable water : For years, they had no potable water. All that ended yesterday with the inauguration of a solar-powered micro water system built by the Lagos State Ministry of Rural Development for their use.

Good Deeds in Nigeria/Africa

  • 17-year-old donates to orphanage home : Moved  by the plight of children living in the Lagos State Motherless Babies Home  (LSMBH),  Lekki, Lagos, the founder of Saratu Kitchener Foundation, SKF, Miss Saratu Kitchener, 17, last week, gave out playground fittings to the orphanage home.
  • Unilever donates products to flood victims : Unilever Nigeria, through its ‘Small Action’ initiative, has donated some materials to flood victims in Ida and Ibaje Local Government areas in Kogi State and some badly hit areas in Delta State.
