Do I have to Travel to Nigeria to Sell My Property?

Do you have real estate in Nigeria that you want to sell? Are you abroad and thinking of coming back in Nigeria just to sell your land?  Are you asking yourself “Do I have to travel to Nigeria to sell my property”? Selling real estate property in Nigeria is the exclusive profession of estate agents and valuers who sell and buy properties on behalf of their clients.

According to an interview with Stella Daku, CEO of E-Philips Estate Surveyors Valuers Property Consultant and License Auctioneer behind PHCN district office in Abuja, there are specific things for you to do if you want to sell your landed property in Nigeria. Below are the details of the interview.

PROCEDURE

The person who owns and wishes to sell the property should contact the experts in property management wherein an agreement is made in the presence of the regulatory body. Thereafter, the property agent takes custody of the property and helps sell the land in behalf of the client.

CONFIRMATION OF PROPERTY

An agreement between the land owner (you) and the property agent (the seller) is very important in this aspect as it will help verify the availability of the said property to be sold. The confirmation of property involves a legal search through the Abuja Geographical Information System Office (AGIS).

LEGAL BACKING PROCEDURE

In Nigeria, the principle of “Law of Contract” is highly regarded; this is what you need to follow if you want to sell your properties.

The Law of Contract in selling property in Nigeria includes:

Letter of request – a letter to the estate agent from the owner of the property requesting the agent to represent him/her in selling the property.
